FAQ’s for Part-Time Students

What days and times are classes available? 

Classes are available day, evening, Saturday and on-line. It changes every semester, so check out the Registrar’s page to get up-to-date schedules.

Am I going to be the oldest person in my class?

Manor college has a non-traditional (not just out of high school) student population. Evening courses seem to have more non-traditional students. In the start of the Spring 2007 semester the age range of part time students was from 18 to 62.

How many classes do I have to take to be eligible for financial aid?

You must take 6 credits per semester to be eligible for financial aid.

Can I start in the summer?

Manor College only admits students into programs/majors in the Fall (September) and Spring (January) semesters. You can take classes in the summer prior to being accepted for Fall semester but it would not be covered by financial aid. Summer courses can be covered by financial aid once you are accepted.

What if I need to talk to someone after 5pm? 

The Continuing Education Office is open Monday through Thursday from 9am-7pm. On Friday we are open from 9am-5pm.

Can I switch from part-time to full time after I feel comfortable with school? 

It is not a problem to switch from part-time (11 credits or less) to full time (12 or more credits). Just keep in mind that school is not only the hours you spend in class but also the time you need to study and do homework. Be sure not to overwhelm yourself.

Since Manor College is a two year school , what do I do if I want to transfer after I complete my courses? 

Manor College has counselors to help with the transfer process. We also have dual admissions agreements with certain colleges. 

Do I need to get a student ID even though I want to be part time?

You need to have a student ID for the library. There are evening hours available to get your ID through the Student Life office.

What if I have forgotten how to study?

You may find that the first two weeks of school are especially difficult. If you struggle or even feel just a little nervous contact the Manor College’s Learning Center. They can set you up with tutoring and/or on-line tutorials. IT’S FREE!

What if I need to contact my teacher?

At the beginning of class the teacher will give you a syllabus with contact information for them.

What about on-line courses—how do they work? 

On-line courses provide the opportunity for you to go to class in your pajamas! You will have assignments and may need to come on campus for a test. The two important things are that you are comfortable on the computer and have self discipline.

If I submit an official transcript from another college for evaluation and then decide that I do not want to attend Manor, can I get the transcript back?

Once a transcript is officially given to the college it becomes property of the college. If you just want an idea of what may be accepted you can talk to your admissions counselor.

Why do I have to have an interview?

Manor is an interview required school. We do this so that we can obtain a complete picture of you as an applicant. 

Can I register for credit classes on-line?

Manor does not have on-line registration. If you are a non-degree student trying to take a credit course, call the Continuing Education office prior to coming in so that we can serve you better. If you are a matriculated student you will be meeting with an academic advisor prior to registration.

What if I did not take chemistry and/or biology in high school? 

Manor College has a workshop in both. It is considered a high school level course. It is a requirement for college level chemistry and/or biology.

Is there really an entrance test? What is on it?

Yes, Manor College does have an entrance test. It is an indicator to tell us how Manor can help you be as successful as possible. The test covers English and Math skills. Your admissions counselor will cover the content in detail with you at an interview. Read more

Is there a way that I can get more information in person but without doing an interview?

Manor College has frequent Open Houses and Return to Learning Seminars. These are great opportunities to learn more about Manor and make sure it is a good choice for you. Check our website for upcoming events.

What if I do not meet all the admissions requirements?

Manor does require all aspects of the procedure are completed prior to desired start date. Manor will help you in any way possible to complete them.

What if I want to brush up or learn computer skills before I start college?

Manor has workshops and seminars on general and specific computer skills.

What about certificate programs?

Manor has several certificate programs designed for people who already have a bachelors degree or if you want to obtain expertise in a specific area in a short amount of time.
