Mitten Exhitibt at the Pearl S. Buck House Annual Festival of Trees

Manor College is pleased to present: The Mitten, during this year’s Annual Festival of Trees at the Pearl S. Buck, National Historic Site, located in Perkasie, PA.

This exhibit portrays the Ukrainian classic children’s folktale of how a little boy receives a brand new pair of mittens, and proceeds to lose one in the newly fallen snow in route to play with his friends.  A variety of woodland animals discover the mitten, and seek to find refuge from the cold by crawling inside it for warmth – including a tiny mouse, and a large brown bear.  The mitten eventually succumbs and bursts – with the tale ending when the little boy finds his lost mitten.
The MANOR exhibit was created by talented crafters and representatives of the Manor College Ukrainian Heritage Studies Center (UHSC), Ukrainian National Women’s League of America (UNWLA) Branch 88, and Manorly Bead Club – under the guidance of Chrystyna Prokopovych, Curator of the UHSC.   Luba Chornodolsky’s adorable animal characters dressed in authentic Ukrainian  costumes by Lydia Dychdala (Class of ’55), combined with the tree laden with hand-crafted ornaments, evoke a scene of both awe and humor.  It should be noted that MANOR COLLEGE placed first during this event last year with its theme: A Ukrainian Christmas – and is currently featured on the PSBI home page.
