Manor College was recently ranked #1 safest college in Pennsylvania by StateUniversity.com, a national clearing house for information about colleges and universities across the country, including college rankings, financial aid, athletics, academics and more.
In fact, 96 percent of Manor's own 2013 graduates, in the annual Graduate Survey, said they felt Manor had a very safe campus.
"I'm very proud of the StateUniversity.com ranking, as well as the results of the Graduate Survey," said Officer John Madsen, assistant director of Security on Manor's campus. "It was something that was accomplished by the Security department and the Manor Community. It was a group effort, not just one or two people.
"I'm also very thankful to our Dean of Students and Security Director, Sister Marie Francis, OSBM, and our college President, Sister Mary Cecilia, OSBM, for letting us do the things we felt we needed to do to improve security over the past few years," Madsen continued.
Madsen oversees three full-time and 12 part-time security officers on Manor's campus. He credits the addition of security officers and an increase in their visibility on campus as contributing to the improvements, as well as the addition of video monitors around campus and additional training for the officers.
"Also, our relationship with the students," added Madsen. "We go out of our way to make sure we are greeting students and always courteous toward them." Madsen also said that the relationships with the Manor Community at large, as well as with the local police and fire departments have been very important.
