Dear EFDAs:

As promised, Manor College has scheduled a review for the upcoming Pennsylvania Permanent EFDA Certification Examination. I have been in contact with the PSI Testing Agency concerning the content outline for the exam to ensure that we cover required topics that will enable you take this exam with confidence. I have been assured by PSI, “that the exam mirrors the EFDA legislation, so it should be almost identical to what you are already teaching.”

Manor’s curriculum was used as a source of reference by the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry when developing the legislative educational guidelines for EFDA programs. We also had direct involvement with PSI in crafting the examination.

Utilizing this information, we have put together a six hour review course in order to prepare you for this exam.  Mrs.Villante, Ms. Malone, and I will be the lecturing instructors.

Due to the tremendous response we have been receiving to date, we are encouraging you to please register early. Manor’s Professional Development Department has set aside a few potential dates to offer this review. There will be a maximum seating of 60 people per lecture. As sections fill, new reviews will be added to meet the needs of the EFDA community preparing for this exam. The first scheduled dates for this review will be Saturday January 12, 2008. and Saturday January 19, 2008 from 9:00 am to 4:00 pm with an hour for lunch.  I suggest you schedule as early as possible in order to confirm your seating.

We look forward to seeing you and preparing for this exam together.

Sincerely,

Mrs. Diane Meehan
EFDA Program Director

All EFDA Temporary Certificate permit holders should have received notice of the upcoming EFDA Permanent Certification Examination through the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry. If you haven’t received notice yet, be sure that you have notified the State Board of any name or address changes ASAP.

PSI (Psychological Services Inc.) has been contracted to administer this examination.  Manor’s EFDA Program Director has been working with PSI through survey questions pertaining to pertinent information that an EFDA should know. The source of information used to format the educational requirements and test questions was modeled after Manor’s EFDA curriculum.

We were all taken by surprise at the short notice of a testing date which will begin on February 14, 2008.  I know a lot of you have been calling my voicemail and e-mailing me.  I have tried to get back to most of you.  My first priority has been to find out more details concerning this process so that I will be able to answer your questions.  I have been in contact with both the Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry and PSI.

My understanding to date is that the final approval by the State Board of Dentistry concerning content and questions that will be given on the exam will take place at the January Board Meeting in Harrisburg. All EFDAs holding Temporary Certifications MUST register by February 14, 2008. You do not have to sit for the exam on this date, but all paper work must be completed and submitted to Harrisburg  by February 14, 2008.

PSI will be putting together a review for this exam but, no definite date has been set.  I assume this will take place after the final approval of the exam by the State Board in January. I was unable to get a truly defined statement from PSI concerning this matter.  I will follow up on this issue and keep you posted.

The initial steps for this registration process is as follows:

1.    Go to Pennsylvania State Board of Dentistry Web site  www.dos.state.pa.us/den
2.    Open Board Newsletter (Read page 3) “Attention EFDA Temp. Permit
       Holders”.

3.    Go back to main page for State Board and go to “Licensure Information”.
Scroll down to “Application for Permanent EFDA Certification
       Exam, Temporary Permit Holders Only”.
a.   Read instructions carefully concerning registration and
requirements and begin the process of gathering required information.
b.   Be sure to submit for “Criminal Check” ASAP.  This usually takes
      a while to receive.
c.   Be sure you have current CPR Certification ( Infant, Child, Adult)
                  “Healthcare Provider”

4.   Be sure to read the last paragraph which explains the process that will
take place when the Board receives all required information from you.

5.   Go to PSI web site http://candidate.psiexams.com/
a.    Select in State  “ PA”
b.    Select in Licensing Agency “ Pa. State Board of Dentistry”
c.    Download “Candidate Information Bulletin” This will give you information on cost etc.
d.  Go up to right hand corner of this page and download “Candidate Information Bulletin”. This will give you all testing information and some sample questions.

This is all the information I have at this time.  Manor College is in the process of putting together a review for this upcoming exam. I ask that you continue to monitor this web site for updates and scheduled times for this review course.

I hope I have answered some of your questions.  We will get through this because,
WE ARE EFDAs.
Smile and have a good day.
Mrs. Meehan
