Space – The Final Frontier
(Ages 6 – 11 years old)
Brave young astronauts will explore the mysteries of the planets, stars and tools used for space exploration. Children will discover not only how astronauts get into space, but also how they live and work once they get there. They will learn about gravity, propulsion and the basics of rocket science through fun, hands-on activities. Children will come to understand that propulsive forces can come from many sources, will experiment with balloon rockets and will make their own air rockets to take home. Most importantly, they will learn first hand about the aerodynamic properties of flying machines by building their own Estes® model rockets! Once the rockets are completed, children will blast off on a real Mad Science space mission with the grand finale, the rocket launch!
DATE: Monday to Friday; July 21 to July 25
TIME: 9:00 am to 12:00 pm
FEE: $149.00 (all materials included)
More Power to You! Energy & Transportation
(Ages 6 – 11 years old)
Jump aboard the energy express and travel through time to discover the science behind power & motion. This journey will include in-class experiments such as a water powered turbine illuminating a light bulb, fuel cell cars demonstrating efficiency, and the combined power of electricity and magnetism to create the world’s simplest motor. Children will also build their very own electromagnet to take home. Students will discover renewable energy sources, such as the sun and wind, where they will build and test individual solar hot dog cookers and their own balsa wood airplanes. Watch your children Light Up for this NEW week of Mad Science!
DATE: Monday to Friday; July 21 to July 25

Radical Reactions & Detective Science
(Ages 6 – 11 years old)
In this weeklong program, campers will have tons of fun mixing up potions and experimenting with all kinds of chemical reactions! Our young chemists will grow crystals, create sidewalk chalk, and even make chromatography T-Shirts to take home. Students will also become science sleuths as they investigate how chemistry provides evidence at the scene of a crime. During this hands-on detective work, children will gather & test “crime scene” clues, make & analyze their own fingerprints, make Rainbow Stompers & much more.

Learn the Wonders of Magic
This workshop teaches all levels of magic. For beginners, we will focus on easy tricks with cards, coins, sponge balls and everyday objects. This is easy magic that anyone can do. For the more experienced magician, we will focus more on sleight of hand magic and less on self-working material. Some more advanced tricks with cards, coins, rubber bands, as well as classics such as the cups and balls routine and the sponge bunnies will be taught. For the students who have experience or who participated in the seminars last year, we will continue to learn more technically advanced concepts with cards and coins. We will discuss and learn about trick decks, such as the rising cards and we will also learn a more advanced version of the cups and balls routine. The coin material covered in this class will include techniques such as palming, vanishes, and switches.
There will be a small group setting with plenty of personalized instruction. This class is designed to give a basic foundation in magic and to build immediate confidence performing magic in front of peers. There will be video footage shown during the workshop of last year's students as well as magic acts of great magicians.
Each Friday, at the end of the session, the children will perform a small show for parents and faculty members in our classroom.
Each class will accommodate the students level of expertise.
