Those invited to participate: Catechists in-service, Catechists in-formation, seminarians and deacon candidates, high school seniors, college students, and all interested for personal knowledge and for spiritual growth and development. Course content is appropriate to Eastern Christian Churches, both Catholic and Orthodox, and would be of interest to members of all faiths.

RS 132: HEBREW SCRIPTURES: The Old Testament from a Byzantine Perspective
Overview of the patristic understanding of the Old Testament as prophetic, focused on Christ; the role of the Septuagint and those texts regularly read or alluded to in worship in the Eastern Churches.

RS 133: HISTORY and FAITH TRADITION OF EASTERN CHRISTIANITY
Survey of the history of the Eastern Church including the Apostolic Period, Ecumenical Councils, development of the Byzantine Tradition, division and reunification of the Churches, Eastern Catholics in the West and in the modern period. Includes a comparison of the Eastern and Western Catholic Churches.

RS 134: LITURGY and MYSTERIES OF THE EASTERN CHRISTIANITY
General overview of Christian worship from the Byzantine Tradition. Themes include faith expressed in worship, sanctification of time, yearly liturgical cycle, Divine Liturgy, the Holy Mysteries (Sacraments) and ideas for living liturgically.

RS 135: CHRISTIAN SCRIPTURES: The New Testament from a Byzantine Perspective
Introduction to the Gospels; employing the perspective of the Greek Fathers and the liturgical usage. Also includes an overview of the Acts of the Apostles, Epistles and Revelation of John.
