Middle Level Education

Early Childhood Education – Middle Level, spanning grades four through eight, is a field currently experiencing rapid change and growth in job opportunities. According to the Bureau of Labor Statistics, employment of kindergarten and elementary school teachers is expected to grow by 17 percent from 2010 to 2020.

In this program, you will gain a broad-based education in the basics of teaching children within this age range, including young adolescent development, inclusive practices, and creating age-appropriate curriculum in all subject areas. You will learn theory and put it to use through practical experience with middle-school children.

Our Middle Level program is the first step toward becoming a teacher, preparing you for transfer to a four-year institution to earn a bachelor’s degree. With an advanced degree in this field, you could teach any grade from four through eight in a public school (with Pennsylvania Instructional I Certification), private school, or charter school. Depending on your coursework, you could become a classroom generalist teaching all subjects…or specialize in one or more concentrations, such as Math, Science, Social Studies, or Literacy.
