FIRE EMERGENCY
Fire safety is of primary importance to the Security Department and to all members of the community. Fire drills are conducted monthly in the Residence Hall and periodically in other buildings. All buildings are equipped with up-to-date fire extinguishers, as required by law. Fire safety and security procedures are explained and reviewed at the beginning of each academic year.
The following procedure is to be followed in the event of a fire emergency:
EXIT PROCEDURE
- 1. Stay Calm.
- 2. Quickly leave the building in an orderly fashion.
- 3. If you are departing the Residence Hall knock on your neighbor's door.
- 4. Walk . . . do not run . . . to the nearest exit.
- 5. After exiting the building . . . walk towards the tennis court area.
NOTE: DO NOT STAND NEAR THE BUILDING IN THE PARKING LOT OR DRIVEWAY!
BLOCKED EXIT PROCEDURE
- If all exits are blocked, stay by the window and yell for HELP!
- DO NOT go into closets or under desks or beds!
- When exiting a smoke filled room or building--
STAY LOW, CROUCH DOWN, MOVE QUICKLY!
- If you should catch on fire . . .
STOP . . . . . DROP . . . . . and ROLL, until the fire is out!
REMEMBER: Smoke rises and so do harmful gases. Fresh air is near the floor.
