Manor “Lady Jays” Leave the Nest for Prestigious, Competitive Programs

Members of the three-time EPCC Championship Manor College “Lady Jays” Women’s Basketball squad will be showcasing their talents this fall as the newest members of many of the area’s most competitive and celebrated women’s basketball programs. While it may be hard to capture the success these ladies experienced as members of the Lady Jays, (who never lost a game while playing at their home court during the 2006-07 season), they are sure to bring talent and tenacity to their new teams this upcoming year.

Stephanie “Muff” Jones (Philadelphia/ Gratz High School), a first-year guard for the "Lady Jays", recently signed with Bloomsburg University in Bloomsburg, PA, an NCAA Division II school. Jones will join Tammy Milsaps' team, which went 7 - 20 during the 2006 - 2007 season. Jones averaged 15.2 ppg, and 5.3 rebounds per game. She was part of a squad that went 22 -1 on the regular season, finishing as the three-peat champions of the EPCC (Eastern Pennsylvania Collegiate Conference).
Manor’s top scorer and re-bounder from 2005 to 2007, Jillian Bennett (New Jersey/ Holy Cross High School), will continue her college basketball career at NCAA Division II school, Wilmington College in Delaware. Jill should continue to dominate the basketball game at Wilmington the same way she did for Manor College. Jillian Bennett holds the honor as Manor’s one and only 1000 point scorer in our history of women’s basketball.

Alesha Butler, Angela Holzbaur, and Emily Montanez will all continue their basketball careers at Rosemont University in Rosemont PA, an NCAA Division III school. Here, these three impressive student–athletes will not only excel on the basketball court, but in the classroom as well.
"At Manor College, an athlete is given the advantage of coming and playing for a two-year school." said Robert Reeves, Director of Athletics at Manor College. "Before attending a four-year institution, they are able to improve both their athletic and academic performances. Stephanie, Jill, Alesha, Angela, and Emily are further proof of the success stories we continue to write here at Manor College.” Within the past two years, Manor College women’s basketball program has sent eight players to prestigious NCAA four-year institutions, including the following players from the 2005-2006 season:
Mary-Beth Szczesny – Neumann College, Jennifer Welte – Gwynedd Mercy College, and Tamika McFadden- Cheyney University. In addition 2004-2005 Manor team captain, Lisa Williams, left her mark as a member of the historic Immaculata University squad from 2005-2007.
