Allied Health -- Science Transfer

Students who wish to enter a professional health occupation or pursue a career in science may begin studies at Manor in the Associate in Science degree curriculum and transfer after two years to an affiliated college or other four-year college.

The Allied Health/Science Transfer program is designed for transfer into allied health occupations such as nursing, radiologic sciences occupational therapy, physical therapy or others; and for transfer into biology or chemistry, pre-medicine, chiropractic or laboratory science fields. There are different laboratory science fields to choose from including biotechnology, cytotechnoloy, and medical technology.*

There is a Nursing-Diploma Program option for students who do not wish to transfer to a four-year institution. Manor's Nursing-Diploma program provides a foundation in the sciences and liberal arts, allowing the students to develop the interpersonal, critical thinking and problem solving skills necessary for success in the nursing program. The small classes and nurturing environment found at Manor allow the students to gain confidence in his/her academic abilities.

Manor has a consortium agreement with Abington Memorial Hospital Dixon School of Nursing. The first year at Manor's campus is the foundation year of the student's education. During this year, the student completes courses in the science and liberal arts. Manor's pre-nursing curriculum provides a solid foundation and a direct pathway toward Dixon's program in professional nursing. The second and third years, at Dixon's campus, build upon Manor's groundwork, giving the student over 600 hours of classrooms instructions as well as 1000 hours of clinical instruction. Dixon graduates enjoy outstanding success on the RN licensure examination and an excellent job placement history. Because Dixon's School on nursing offers a hospital-based program of study, the students has the advantage of working closely with nurses, physicians and other health care providers, becoming a functioning member of health care team. This important feature permits the students to experience different nursing career options while still a nursing student.

Student accepted into the program must earn at least a "C" in all classes at Manor and maintain a GPA of 3.0 or higher to be considered at Dixon.

The Allied Health curriculum is flexible enough to suit the needs of individual transfer students. This is accomplished by tailoring the electives to meet the requirements for a specific option. An 80-hour observational externship (AH100) is required for sophomore students in good standing in pre-occupational therapy and pre-physical therapy at an affiliated institution.

Students must attain a grade of "C" or better in all science courses. Any student with a final grade of "D" or "F" in any one of these courses will be required to repeat the course. Students who have a cumulative GPA<2.0 for two successive semesters may be dismissed from the program.

*There are two different ways in which a laboratory science field may be completed. One way, referred to as the 2+2 option, is to complete 67-68 credits at Manor and transfer to another college for two additional years. A second way, the 3+1 option, is to take 71 credits at Manor, depending on the lab science program. The additional credits could be completed during the summer at Manor. The student would then transfer to earn a bachelor's degree in one calendar year (12 months) in one of the laboratory science fields.
